Law Pleases Solano's House Leaders

Congress on Tuesday approved legislation that Solano's two representatives praised as saving or creating 319,000 jobs in local communities, including 161,000 teacher jobs. By a vote of 247 to 161, the House of Representatives passed the Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act. President Barack Obama signed the legislation into law.
"With this vote today, we're taking decisive action to prevent our children from becoming victims of this economy by ensuring more teachers remain in the classroom," said Rep. George Miller, D-Solano, chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee, in a press release announcing the vote. "This legislation won't save every job but it will certainly provide much-needed relief and a critical lifeline to schools. Read more...
